New baby & parent group lands Eastlight grant

A new group supporting parents and their babies has been launched in Halstead following funding from Eastlight Community Homes.

The Sunnybabies group, created by Halstead mum and Eastlight resident, Emily Hume, meets at Queens Hall in the town every Friday at 1.15pm.

Emily created the baby group after noticing parents of newborns attending the two parent and toddler groups she also runs were often overwhelmed. Emily successfully secured grants from Eastlight, Halstead Town Council and Gosfield Golf Club.

As well as providing craft activities, healthy snacks and a listening ear at the new group, Emily also books expert speakers on subjects ranging from post-natal depression and sleep.

Entry is £4 to all groups, and, if someone is struggling to pay, theyʼre still welcomed with open arms.

Emily said: “Itʼs such a lovely community – we know people can be nervous to attend groups, but everyone is welcome. Itʼs good for parents moving into the area – it creates connections. I absolutely love doing it.

“I want people to walk into an environment and feel welcomed and not judged.”

Emily’s parent and toddler groups, SunnyDays, meet at Halstead Baptist Church on Wednesday morning and Gosfield Hall on Thursday mornings.

Joanne Jackson, Resident Engagement Officer at Eastlight, said: “We love seeing our residents doing incredible things in their communities. Affordable support for parents is vital, and Emilyʼs fantastic contribution to the community led to her being named ʻOutstanding New Volunteerʼ at the Braintree District Volunteer and Active Braintree Awards 2023. Huge congratulations, Emily.”
