NHS nurses gifted hand-knitted headbands from Eastlight customers

NHS nurses have been donated handmade headwear from a talented knitting group in Silver End.

The Knit and Natter group at Eastlight Community Housing’s Manors housing scheme became aware that nurses needed knitted headbands to wear under their facemasks for comfort.

Although the group cannot currently meet in person, they wasted no time putting their needles to good use and made more than 100 headbands.

The headbands were delivered to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford by NHS Community Donations, along with a large bag of toiletries donated by the knitting group and friends.

Barbara Adams, a founding member and Eastlight resident, said:

“When we heard that we could help the NHS by knitting headbands, we jumped at the chance. They’re doing such wonderful work and we appreciate the chance to do something to support them during this difficult time.”

James Green, Community Investment Director at Eastlight, said: “It's inspiring to see how local groups like Knit and Natter are supporting their communities at this challenging time. Such creative thinking that will make a real difference to NHS nurses. Well done to all involved.”

Before the pandemic, The Knit and Natter group met regularly to showcase their skills while spinning some yarns. Their creations include hundreds of poppies for annual displays to commemorate Remembrance Day.
