    What is shareholding?

As a Community Gateway Association, Eastlight is committed to creating opportunities for residents to become members and have a say in governance and strategic decisions.

At Eastlight, we have around 4,500 Shareholders, who are invited to Annual General Meetings (AGMs) and occasional Special General Meetings (SGMs).

    At these meetings, Shareholders:

    • Vote on resolutions, including for Board Members and who our auditors should be
    • Receive an update on Eastlight’s activities, including community work, over the previous year
    • Get the opportunity to ask any questions they have the Leadership Team.

What is the future of shareholding?

At the 2024 AGM, only 67 Shareholders took the opportunity to vote. In 2024, we held a series of workshops and conversations with shareholders to see if we can make it more meaningful to more people.

Residents told us that Shareholding doesn’t give them the chance to influence and shape the services that matter to them.

As a result, we co-designed a new offer to try and create a more meaningful alternative for residents.

This co-designed offer, the Resident Members Charter, was supported by residents during a consultation in February and March 2025.

At a Special General Meeting on 25 June 2025, shareholders voted to implement the Resident Members Charter. This will now happen in due course, and residents will receive an invitation to become Resident Members in due course.
