Eastlight residents back new charter to strengthen their voice
A new Resident Members Charter enshrining the customer voice within Eastlight’s rules is set to be introduced after resident shareholders overwhelmingly supported it.
The Charter, co-designed by Eastlight residents, sets out a long-term, binding commitment to meaningful resident influence.
At a Special General Meeting on Wednesday, 25 June, shareholders voted to introduce the Charter as follows:
Number of votes received | Percentage of votes received | |
Yes votes | 67 | 91.78% |
No votes | 6 | 8.22% |
The charter will replace the current open shareholding model and embeds resident involvement directly into Eastlight’s rules, ensuring that residents play a central role in shaping services and holding the organisation to account.
Hattie Llewelyn-Davies, Chair of the Board at Eastlight, said: “When Eastlight was created five years ago, we made a promise to put residents at the heart of everything we do.
“This Resident Members Charter, which will be included in Eastlight’s rules, is a defining moment in our journey to becoming a truly resident-led organisation.
“My thanks go to the group of Eastlight residents and staff who have worked tirelessly to co-design this charter. Now, the work begins to implement it so that staff and residents work side-by-side to shape Eastlight for the better.”
Next steps
The Charter sets out the philosophy, purpose and principles around residents acting as long-term custodians of Eastlight, the services and homes we provide and the work we do in the neighbourhoods we operate in.
Once the rule changes introducing the charter have been verified, all Eastlight residents will be invited to become Resident Members.
Members will receive regular invitations to take part in a range of engagement activities contained within the Eastlight Community Gateway Circle.
These include existing opportunities, such as joining a community-based Eastlight Residents Group, applying for the Customer Influence Committee or taking part in surveys and workshops to influence services, strategies and policies.
New engagement opportunities, including a new-look scrutiny programme focusing on the services that matter most to residents, will also be launched in the coming months.
